Moving to Malta? Start with the right official route.

Residence is not one application

Identità publishes separate information for EU nationals and other working or residence circumstances. Start there and identify the route that matches you. A document checklist for one applicant should not be reused for a different nationality, family situation or purpose.

Keep the official page and the date you consulted it. Requirements can change, and an article cannot establish your individual eligibility. If anything is unclear, ask the authority that administers the route or seek qualified advice.

Remote work is a distinct question

Residency Malta’s Nomad Residence Permit is a specific programme for eligible people retaining overseas work arrangements while residing in Malta. It is not a general label for everyone working from a laptop and does not automatically apply to a local job.

Check the programme’s current eligibility, application instructions and conditions directly. Do not assume that a residence permission settles every employment, healthcare, social-security or tax question. Those can require separate checks with the appropriate bodies.

Make a route-specific document list

Only build your checklist after identifying the correct official route. Confirm practical questions before committing to non-refundable plans.

• Identify nationality and purpose of stay.
• Confirm residence and work requirements separately.
• Use the current official document checklist.
• Check family members’ requirements individually.
• Seek qualified advice for personal legal or tax questions.
