Test your daily journey at the time you would actually make it.
Compare routines, not labels
A great weekend base is not automatically the right place to live. List your workplace or study location, food shopping, regular appointments and the places you expect to visit in the evening. Compare prospective homes against that routine.
Build a shortlist around distinct options: a harbour-area address, an inland address and, only if compatible with your work, an address on Gozo. This is a method of comparing trade-offs, not a claim that one area is universally cheaper or quieter.
Visit the actual street
Walk the route to a bus stop and inspect the entrance, light and ventilation of the property. Revisit at a different hour if possible. Ask about nearby works, waste collection, parking arrangements and the responsibilities for shared areas.
Check current bus routes and schedules with Malta Public Transport. If your routine depends on a ferry connection, verify the applicable service as well. A map’s travel estimate is not a commitment from an operator.
Make a comparison sheet
Score shortlisted homes using your own priorities rather than a generic ranking. The most useful comparison includes the complete housing cost and the time your journeys consume.
- Try the commute during your expected travel window.
- Check access to shopping and regular services.
- Compare total bills and housing terms.
- Visit the street at more than one time of day.
